Terms of Use

Lugnut Terms of Use

Version 3 · Effective October 26, 2026 · Applies to Lugnut on iPhone, iPad and Mac

These terms add to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA), which also applies. The same terms are shown in the app under Settings → About → Terms of Use.

1. About these terms

These Terms of Use apply to the Lugnut app on iPhone, iPad and Mac. They add to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which also applies to the app. By choosing Agree, you accept these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app.

Apple isn't responsible for the app, its content or its support. The developer is.

2. What the app is

Lugnut is a personal tool for keeping records about your vehicles: services, parts, fuel and charging, costs, reminders, warranties, recalls, documents and diagnostic readings.

It is not a mechanic, a dealer or a safety inspection. It doesn't replace your vehicle's owner's manual, the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, warning lights, or the advice of a qualified technician.

3. Maintenance and safety are your responsibility

You decide when and how your vehicle is maintained and repaired. Service intervals in the app are general presets or values you enter; they may not suit your vehicle, how you drive it or where you live.

Reminders and notifications depend on the dates and odometer readings you enter and on your device's settings. They may be late, wrong or not appear at all, for example if notifications are turned off or a device is off. Don't rely on them as your only way of keeping track.

If your vehicle shows a warning light, behaves unusually, or may be unsafe, stop driving it when it's safe to do so and have it checked by a qualified technician.

4. Information in the app may be wrong

Receipt and document reading is automatic and can misread amounts, dates, odometer readings and part numbers. Review everything before you save it.

VIN details come from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and may be partial, especially for vehicles built for other markets.

Recalls are looked up by make, model and year from Transport Canada and NHTSA. A listed recall may not apply to your vehicle, and a recall that does apply may be missing or delayed. Check with a dealer, Transport Canada or NHTSA using your VIN.

Factory warranty presets are typical published terms for recent model years. Actual coverage depends on the model year, the country of sale, the in-service date, earlier owners and the manufacturer's own conditions. Your warranty booklet or contract is what counts. The app can't tell you whether a claim will be approved.

Seasonal tire advice uses weather forecasts, which can be wrong, and summaries of provincial and state laws and insurers' dates, which can be incomplete or change. You're responsible for meeting the law where you drive and your insurance policy's conditions; check them with the government and your insurer.

Costs, fuel economy, tire life, projected due dates and similar figures are estimates based on what's been entered.

5. OBD diagnostics

Diagnostic features read information from your vehicle through an OBD-II adapter that you supply. Lugnut only reads data; it doesn't change settings or clear codes. Adapters are made by other companies, and Lugnut isn't responsible for them.

Diagnostic codes and readings aren't a diagnosis. Have a qualified technician interpret them before you repair or replace anything.

Don't look at, set up or use the app while driving, and obey the distracted-driving laws where you are. Some adapters can drain the vehicle's battery if left plugged in.

If you turn on automatic checks, Lugnut reads the car in the background when it starts; nothing needs to be done on the phone. Plugging a device into the OBD port is your choice; check your vehicle's warranty and the adapter maker's instructions.

6. Your data

Your records, photos and documents are stored on your devices and, if you use iCloud, in your private iCloud account. The developer doesn't operate servers for the app and doesn't receive your data. There are no accounts, ads or tracking.

Recall checks send a vehicle's make, model and year, and VIN lookups send the VIN, to the government services named above. Those services can see your device's internet address, as any website can.

The seasonal tire forecast sends the position of the city you choose to Apple Weather, and the city search sends what you type to Apple's map service. Neither includes your vehicles or records.

If you contact the developer, your email address and what you choose to include are used only to answer you and fix problems, and aren't shared or used for marketing.

Data can be lost through device failure, deletion, sync problems or app errors. Use the backup feature in Settings and keep copies of important documents, such as receipts you may need for a warranty claim.

7. Other companies and trademarks

Vehicle makes, models and other product names belong to their owners and are used only to identify vehicles. Lugnut isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any vehicle manufacturer, adapter maker, insurer, Transport Canada or NHTSA.

Recall information from Transport Canada contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada. Weather forecasts come from Apple Weather.

8. Lugnut Pro subscription

The free version includes one vehicle with its records, receipts, reminders and recalls. Lugnut Pro adds more vehicles and the features listed in the app, as an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple.

A free trial, when offered, turns into a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel. You'll get a reminder a few days before it ends. Payment, renewals, refunds and cancellation are handled by Apple under its terms; cancel at least 24 hours before a period ends to avoid the next charge, in Lugnut Settings → Subscription or your Apple Account settings.

If Pro ends, your records stay on your devices and can still be viewed and exported. Features may change over time; prices are shown in the App Store before you buy.

9. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, the developer gives no warranties or conditions about it, including that it will be accurate, uninterrupted or fit for a particular purpose.

10. Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, the developer isn't liable for losses that come from using or relying on the app. That includes vehicle damage or breakdown, repair costs, a denied warranty claim, a lost insurance discount, a fine, a missed recall or service, lost data, and indirect or consequential losses.

If the developer is found liable anyway, the total is limited to the greater of what you paid for Lugnut in the 12 months before the claim and 100 Canadian dollars.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for intentional or gross fault, where the law doesn't allow it to be limited.

11. Your rights under consumer law

Some places, including Quebec and Ontario, don't allow certain warranties to be excluded or liability to be limited for consumers. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be waived. Sections 9 and 10 apply only as far as your local law allows.

There is no arbitration clause and no waiver of class actions. You can bring a claim in the courts where you live if your consumer law allows it.

12. Changes

These terms may be updated. If a change matters, the app will show the new terms and ask you to agree before you continue.

If you don't agree to a change, you can stop using the app. Your records stay on your devices, and Back Up Everything in Settings exports them.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, unless the consumer law where you live says otherwise.

14. Contact

Questions about these terms, bug reports and feature requests can be sent with Contact the Developer in Settings, by email to lugnutservice@protonmail.com, or through the support link on the app's App Store page.
