Receipt scanning
Turn car repair receipts into a service history
Most people keep repair receipts in a glovebox or a shoebox. Lugnut reads them, files them by vehicle and date, and keeps the original image with each service.
What Lugnut reads
- The shop and invoice number, from the top of the receipt.
- Date and odometer, including "KM IN / KM OUT" and mileage fields. Ambiguous dates such as 03/04 are read the way your region writes them.
- Each line item: parts with part numbers and quantities, labour with hours and rate, fluids, shop supplies and fees, and discounts.
- Taxes as printed: GST, PST, HST, QST/TVQ, U.S. sales tax and VAT, each on its own line.
- The total, checked against the items plus tax so mistakes stand out.
Dealer repair orders
Dealer invoices are long, and the totals are usually on the last page. Add every page to the same service and Lugnut reads it job by job: the RO number, the pickup date, the odometer out, labour and parts for each job, and the summary totals. Jobs billed to warranty or a recall are kept in your history at no cost, and the dealer's own courtesy inspections are left out.
Matched to your reminders
When a receipt mentions an oil change, brake fluid, a cabin filter or another service on your reminder list, Lugnut selects those reminders so they restart from the receipt's date and odometer. It checks the work done, not the technician's notes, so a "battery tested" note doesn't count as a new battery.
Private, and on your device
Text recognition runs on your iPhone, iPad or Mac using Apple's built-in technology. Receipt images and their text aren't uploaded anywhere. The scanned text is kept with each receipt so you can search it later, for example by part number.
Tips for a clean scan
- Lay the page flat in good light and fill the frame.
- For a multi-page invoice, add all pages to the same service.
- Review the highlighted fields before saving. You can tap Read Details from Receipt to read the pages again.
